Thing 12

My family has had a Flickr account for some time now to share family photos and I love it! It is very user-friendly and an easy way for family and friends to access photos. I have also used Flickr in the classroom, one example is I pulled up a couple of random photos and projected them for the class to see. Then as their journal entry for the day they had to write what they saw in the picture and then describe it to a partner (who did not look at the photo), and try to paint a mental picture for their partner. The class responded very well, and seemed to enjoy the activity. I also have plans to use Flickr as one of my opening day activities. I am still ironing out the parts of that yet but I am super excited!

  1. That's a very simple, but very creative way to use ANY photo! And think about how moviemakers have to do this when taking a book to the screen i.e. LOTR or Harry Potter where there are entire new worlds to create!

  2. My wife and I have shared pictures with our family also. The nice thing is you can be talking to them (on your cell) in a far away place, download the pictures and they can see them as if they were in that far away place with you. I like your classroom activities. I was concerned that students would look at objectionable photos. But if you let them know your expectations they will cooperate.

  3. That is an awesome use for Flickr. It is a great way to bring Visualizing and Verbalizing into the classroom. That activity will also work for the writing activities that will be required this year to help improve MME scores. Great job, thanks for sharing.l
